Compressed Sensing Optimized OFDM-IM Lidar-Communication Integrated System

To address the problem of low transmission rate of information embedded in radar waveforms, an integrated orthogonal frequency division multiplexing-index modulation (OFDM-IM) lidar-communication system is proposed. Additionally, compressed sensing (CS) technique is employed to optimize the radar signal processing, ensuring the system's distance resolution. The bit error rates (BERs) of the integrated system using different modulation orders is analyzed. Simulation results show that the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the proposed system outperform the frequency modulated continuous wave-based radar-communications (FraC) system by around 3.5 dB at a BER of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">${10}^{-4}$</tex>. The application of CS significantly reduces the sidelobes of the Lidar range ambiguity function, achieving a range resolution comparable to that of the FRaC system.
