Data Management For Immersive Spaces

Spatial computing is rapidly moving from academic research into consumer applications. Immersive solutions are appearing across areas such as communications, real estate, commercial banking, and healthcare. For spatial computing to truly blur the boundary between virtual and physical worlds, developers need to create and share 3D content. Recently, industry-wide adoption of interoperable 3D exchange technology promises to reduce cost and simplify the creation of immersive experiences. As with any open data exchange, content provenance and moderation are required to protect both the content creator and consumer. In this paper, we deploy open 3D data interoperability standards to introduce a novel system for content moderation and provenance. We address the needs of content creators with a method for tracking content provenance. Additionally, through access control, the solution may be extended to provide content consumers with a mechanism to opt out of content in collaborative spaces. We elaborate on the following elements of immersive data exchange: digital identity, content provenance, access control, data isolation, and data pruning at render time.
