Honeycomb Composite Defect Detection: Comparative Analysis of Thermography Processing Methods

The report discusses non-destructive testing of polymer composite materials with honeycomb fillers. Three methods of processing thermogram sequences are considered for controlling such materials using active scanning thermography. A comparison of the methods is made based on their accuracy in identifying defects such as “delamination” with various geometric characteristics. The work was carried out using an active thermography setup based on a three-axis CNC portal-type gantry system with a movable portal. Registration of the non-stationary temperature field was performed using a COX CG640 infrared camera. The possibility of identifying defects such as “delamination” with different thicknesses of the filler delamination in the model sample: from 0.1 mm to 0.8 mm under a 0.5 mm thick facesheet is assessed.
