Interlaboratory Comparison in Japan for Radon Determination in Water

It is necessary to examine the exposure caused by radon in water from the perspective of medical physics. Before evaluating the risk posed by radon in water, it is required to set up an analytical quality control system for the measurements by liquid scintillation counters, which are frequently used in the measurements of radon concentration in water. Quality control of radon determination in water is important to safeguard public health. Results from seven Japanese laboratories on the amount of radon in water were compared. This interlaboratory comparison was conducted utilizing liquid scintillation counters, which are frequently used for such measurements. The results obtained from the various laboratories agreed with the assigned value obtained using an instrument calibrated by a standard radium source. The interlaboratory comparison showed a good correlation between the data from the participating laboratories.
