5 Emergency department innovation: reimagining the delivery of emergency medicine

Description
Houston Methodist Willowbrook’s Emergency Department (ED) experienced a 23% increase in patient volume and 350% increase in boarder hours from 2020 to 2023. This increase resulted in lobby overcrowding, a 9% combined left before treatment complete (LBTC) and low patient satisfaction. The objective of this project was to create a totally novel ED care pathway called ED 2.0, within 60 days through the use of data analytics, research and front-line feedback. This presentation will discuss the process of creating the new care pathway, strategies for implementation and the results of ED 2.0 (figures 1–4).
