15 Reduction of colon surgical site infections using a bundled approach in non-elective colon cases

Description
Bundled approaches to prevent colon surgical site infections (SSIs) have been shown effective for patients having elective colon surgeries. There is a lack of a standardized SSI prevention bundle for patients undergoing non-elective colon surgery. Our goal was to develop and implement a non-elective bundle for the prevention of colon SSIs. Come learn as we share how Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital went from 10 CMS reportable COLO SSIs from 260 procedures with an expected 6.72 infections and an SIR of 1.49 to 0 SSIs from 102 procedures with an expected 2.76 infections and an SIR of 0.0 in two fiscal years.
