Factors influencing intention to purchase electric vehicles in Malaysia

This study aims to research factors influencing intention to purchase electric vehicles (EVs) in Malaysia.Malaysians still need to be convinced about buying EVs, although they know their benefits to the environment. This study used a quantitative survey to collect 200 responses and analysed the data using hierarchical multiple regression. The study result showed that personal attitude and functional values positively correlate with the intention to purchase electric vehicles. However, infrastructure readiness was not associated with the intention to purchase electric vehicles.Gender was found to be a quasi-moderator in the research model. This study provides essential information to the government, manufacturers, distributors, and importers about the factors that lead Malaysians to purchase electric vehicles. The government could use the findings of this study to develop plans to attract more Malaysians to purchase electric vehicles towards achieving a carbon-neutral nation by 2050.
