Safety Evaluation of Modified Samultang - In vivo Micronucleus Assay -
Samultang is a widely used prescription for protecting blood flow and energy, consisting of Danggui, Cheongung, Baekjakyak, and Sukji Hwang. In addition, other medicinal ingredients are added to this, and it's the most basic prescription among oriental medicine prescriptions used for various purposes as it is manufactured from Paljintang, Samhwangsa Multang, and shiquan dabu whole duck soup.Among them, Sookji Hwang has side effects that cause digestive disorders, and various combinations have been attempted to reduce this.Since the effect of modified Samultang, which added Omija instead of Sukji Hwang, was partially confirmed, an experiment of the next step to confirm the safety of modified Samultang was required, and an in vivo micronuclear test was conducted. The micronuclear test is a test method used to detect chromosomal damage or damage to the cell division organs caused by bone marrow or peripheral blood cells of rodents who have been given the test substance. It measures cytogenetic damage by forming a micronucleus, including a piece of a chromosome or the entire chromosome. As a result of observing the safety of the administered substance by the formation of micronuclear containing chromosome fragments or entire chromosomes, the frequency of micronuclear polysaline red blood cells and polysaline red blood cells among total red blood cells in the test substance group was not significantly increased compared to the negative control group. The modified Samultang does not seem to cause chromosome or cell division organ damage in bone marrow or peripheral blood cells.
