A Study for Kinetics and Oxidation Reaction of Alcohols by C9H7NHCrO3Cl[Cr[VI]-Quinoline Complex]
The C9H7NHCrO3Cl[Cr(VI)-quinoline complex] was synthesized by reacting C9H7N[quinolone] and CrO3[chromium trioxide].The structure of C9H7NHCr3Cl[Cr(VI)-quinoline complex] is identified by IR[infrared spectroscopy], ICP[inductively coupled plasma] and EA[elemental analysis].The oxidizing ability of C9H7NHCrO3Cl [Cr(VI)-quinoline complex] for the oxidation of alcohols was examined in CH2Cl2 [dichloromethane].As a result, C9H7NHCrO3Cl[Cr(VI)-quinoline complex] was found to be an efficicent oxidizing agent for the conversion of benzylic alcohol, allylic alcohol, saturated primary alcohol, secondary alcohol to the corresponding carbonyl compound[aldehydes or ketones] 71%-96%.The selective oxidation of alcohols was also examined by The C9H7NHCrO3Cl[Cr(VI)-quinoline complex] in CH2Cl2 [dichloromethane].The C9H7NHCrO3Cl[Cr(VI)-quinoline complex] was a selective oxidizing agent[72%-95%] of benzylic alcohol, allylic alcohol and saturated primary alcohols in the presence of secondary alcohols[9%-26%].As a result, The C9H7NHCrO3Cl[Cr(VI)-quinoline complex] was a selective oxidizing agent of benzylic alcohol, allylic alcohol and saturated primary alcohols in the presence of secondary alcohols.ln DMF[N,N-dimethylformamide] solvent, The C9H7NHCrO3Cl[Cr(VI)-quinoline complex] oxidized benzyl alcohol and its derivatives [H,, in the presence of acidic[0.05molHCl] catalyst. The reaction was dependent on alcohol, The C9H7NHCrO3Cl[Cr(VI)-quinoline complex] and acid concentration[HCl= 0.05mol] catalyst. The Hammett reaction constant[= -0.64, 308K].The observed experimental data have been rationalized that the proton transfer occurred following the formation of a chromate ester in the rate-determining step.
