The numeral “пӗр” in the Chuvash language: Peculiarities of translation into Russian and German (by the example of the poem “Narspi” by K. V. Ivanov)

The aim of the research is to identify, based on a comparative analysis, the features of translating the numeral “пӗр” into German and Russian using the example of Chuvash constructions with the numeral “пӗр” in K. V. Ivanov’s poem “Narspi”. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that for the first time the specifics of translating the numeral “пӗр” in K. V. Ivanov’s poem “Narspi” from Chuvash into Russian and German are being investigated, while preserving the stylistic originality of the original and recreating the verse composition of the original. The translation of the Chuvash numeral “пӗр” into Russian and German and the ways of its rendering have not been considered in such detail before. Thanks to linguistic comparative analysis, a less popular and little-spoken Chuvash language is studied and compared with German and Russian. Studies of rendering techniques in the translation of Chuvash works into different languages are of interest to linguistics and translation criticism. The issues of translating Chuvash works into the languages of other peoples, related to the transfer of the stylistic and national uniqueness of the original, its poetic form, are new material for study. As a result, it was established that a common way to translate the numeral “пӗр” is to replace it with a singular noun.
