The problem of shifting grammatical person in the compound verbal predicate of the Ingush language

The study aims to interpret the shift of grammatical person in the semantic structure of verbs participating in compound predication. The article examines the compound verbal predicate in an ergative language, represented by verbs from various corpora, comparing them with Russian compound predication, irrespective of corpus verb distribution. Verbs of the simple predicate in the ergative language are differentiated into three core corpora (nominative, ergative, and affective) depending on the person of the paradigm encoded in the verb’s semantic structure as the main valency. The novelty of the study lies in identifying and substantiating the thesis based on several research methods presented in the article explaining why the mixing of verbs from different corpora of the Ingush language, which independently encode one main actant, generates a new person in compound predication, displacing the actant with the main person function. As a result, it was found that when mixing verbs from different corpora within a compound predicate, the position of the actant with the main valency begins to weaken in the ergative language and share its place in the compound predication structure with another person. This relationship is indifferent to the Russian nominative language.
