DIABETES MELLITUS E A IMPORTÂNCIA DOS CUIDADOS FARMACÊUTICOS NO TRATAMENTO E CONTROLE DA DOENÇA¹
Abstract: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder of varied etiology, common in the adult population, caused by failures in insulin secretion and action that lead to acute and chronic complications. Furthermore, DM is a disease that requires early diagnosis and adequate treatment for a successful prognosis to be achieved. However, some problems such as hospitalizations, loss of productivity, medication expenses and deaths are frequently associated with DM. Thus, currently, the pharmacist needs to work within Pharmaceutical Care in order to relate directly to the patient and monitor their pharmacotherapy. This bibliographic review aims to identify the correlation between DM and Pharmaceutical Care. For this, a bibliographic search will be carried out through books, case studies, literature reviews and articles available in the Pubmed, Scielo, Virtual Health Library and Google Scholar databases. Given this scenario, the importance of the pharmaceutical professional becomes clear, since he/she can ensure adequate pharmacotherapy for the patient, improving their adherence to treatment and, consequently, providing a better quality of life.
