Identifying Requirements for Enhanced Deep Learning Classification in Malaria Microscopic Images Analysis

Objective: The major goal of the study is to improve malaria diagnosis by applying advanced deep learning models, improving the model architecture, increasing dataset quality, and complex image preprocessing methodologies for more correct blood smear categorization. Methods: Blood smear images, covering both malaria-positive and negative microscopic images, were aggregated and pre-processed to assure dataset quality, employing techniques such as image standardization, noise reduction, and contrast enhancement. The study has analyzed the dataset's size and quality in order to maximize deep learning model configurations. Results: The data show that the proposed methodology meets the primary performance criteria for deep learning-based malaria detection. The improved pre-processing techniques and model architecture, which used VGG19 with transfer learning and high-quality datasets, significantly increased the model's accuracy to 97.76%, with an F1 score of 0.4888. A system RAM size of 16-32 GB was recommended, and a sensitivity of 97.76% was reached. The use of sophisticated preprocessing techniques and model architectures allows for better accuracy in the detection and classification of malaria-infected blood smears. Conclusion: The ultimate goal is to construct a very precise and efficient diagnostic tool for malaria, particularly suited for resource-limited places where speedy and reliable detection is crucial. This effort contributes to the larger goal of integrating artificial intelligence into global healthcare to combat malaria. Novelty/Applications: By following rigorous protocols and utilizing deep learning, this work improves malaria detection, particularly in low-resource settings. Keywords: Malaria diagnosis, Blood smears, Deep learning, Microscopic images, Dataset quality
