Improvement Acid Pretreatment of Corn Stover for Efficient Pentose Production

Pentoses are five-carbon sugars derived from various raw materials. They are increasingly important because they are used to produce high-value products such as xylitol, a highly sought-after sweetener known for its significant sweetness, which is utilized in various oral care products and foods. This study investigates the extraction of pentoses, specifically xylose from corn stover by employing a central composite design, and response surface methodology. The aim is to identify the optimal pretreatment conditions by evaluating the concentration of H<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf>SO<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">4</inf> (% v/v), pretreatment time (min), and Liquid-Solid Ratio (LSR) (mL/g), ultimately achieving xylose yields of up to 31.93 g/L.
