Development of a training system for gross psychomotor skills in visually impaired individuals

Individuals who are affected with partial or total vision loss, deal with great difficulties in their daily lives. Among them, a particular challenge is the psychomotor development being hindered due to the impossibility of gathering psychomotor information through vision to replicate it.Thus, this project presents a training system that assists in the development of gross psychomotor skills using haptic technologies applied to a modular suit, which is adaptable to most types of bodies and replicable. A web interface was created to interpret and plot data, helping to observe where further assistance is required for the improvement of the patients’ gross psychomotor system. With the help of the Topos Puebla FC team for the blind, the necessary tests were carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the system, measuring and comparing reference angles with the control model during several exercise routines, obtaining the necessary data to observe the user's performance, and gathering the user’s feedback about the system for further improvements. This project is a breakthrough in the integration of hardware and software for medical applications, providing real-time physical feedback during motor development activities. The positive feedback from end users supports the user-centered orientation and continuous improvement of the system, enabling a better quality of life for people with special needs in the future.
