Metamaterial Inspired Planar Multi-Band Antenna for Wireless Application
This paper proposes a novel approach to multiband planar monopole antenna design. This technique uses a planar antenna loaded with a subwavelength device called a split ring resonator. The 2.4/5.2GHz WLAN and 3.5/5.5 GHz Wi-MAX bands are both covered by the antenna. It uses the following frequencies to function: 2.34–2.57 GHz, 3.37–4.4 GHz, and 4.62–5.52 GHz. The elevation plane radiation pattern of IEEE 802.11 a/b WLAN frequencies and Wi-Max WLAN frequencies are nearly the same. The highest gain of the split ring resonator loaded antenna is 4 dBi.
