Sum-Rate Optimization for RIS-Aided Multiuser Communications With Movable Antennas

Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) are recognized as a promising technology for enhancing wireless communication network performance. Meanwhile, movable antennas (MAs) are recently an emerging technology that optimizes antennas’ positions to boost channel capacity. This letter considers a novel RIS-aided multiuser communication system empowered by MAs. Our goal is to characterize the performance of MA-based RIS-aided systems by jointly optimizing the reflection coefficients of the RIS, the positions of MAs, and the beamforming matrix at the base station (BS). To this end, an efficient algorithm is proposed to solve the resultant non-convex problem by fractional programming techniques. Numerical results are provided to validate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm and demonstrate the superiority of the MA-based RIS-aided systems compared to the conventional RIS-aided ones with fixed-position antennas (FPAs).
