Work accidents in Brazil: a perspective from registered accidents in the manufacturing industry from 2018 to 2023

Worker health and safety is a topic of great importance within organizations and for the government, as neglecting this issue can result in both damage to human capital and financial losses. Various data and information are generated from occurrences of diseases, accidents, and fatalities in the occupational realm, making it necessary to register, analyze, and monitor this topic. In Brazil, these events must be recorded through the opening of a Work Accident Communication, which are subsequently grouped by periods and made publicly available by Brazil's Social Security. In this study, these data are subjected to an exploratory analysis, aiming to examine cases of diseases, accidents, and fatalities in Brazil, as well as the attributes of the dataset. To this end, all available data up to now is utilized, covering the time frame from June 2018 to May 2023. Additionally, the focus of the analysis was on the manufacturing industry sector, which has the highest number of records (around 30%). The main contributions of the research seek to analyze the categories with the highest incidence for each attribute, as well as to identify missing values and outliers, in order to construct a new dataset that allows for future applications.
