ATUAÇÃO FISIOTERAPÊUTICA NA PREVENÇÃO DE QUEDAS EM IDOSOS

Aging is accompanied by physiological, psychological, morphological and biochemical changes. The aging process is characterized by reduced capacity, decreased strength, flexibility, balance and gait, leaving the elderly more susceptible to falls. The objective of this study is to identify, among the areas of physical therapy, some methods carried out in prevention, to evaluate extrinsic and intrinsic risk factors and to present actions of physical therapy interventions to avoid the risk of falls in the elderly. Method: This is a literature review. The collection was carried out through articles published between 2019 and 2024, in the Google Scholar, SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) and VHL (Virtual Health Library) databases. Result The Physiotherapist has the necessary knowledge for guidance, acting in a preventive way and guiding safe ways to prevent the risks of falls, providing a better quality of life and improvement in the performance of activities of daily living (ADLs), corroborating their greater autonomy. Conclusion: Physical therapy plays an important role in the prevention of falls, aiming to improve functional capacity, providing greater independence to the elderly.
