NÚMEROS NACIONAIS DO CÂNCER DO COLO DO ÚTERO NOS ÚLTIMOS 10 ANOS: A IMPORTÂNCIA DO RASTREAMENTO E DA VACINAÇÃO CONTRA O HPV

Cervical cancer is one of the main public health concerns in low- and middle-income countries, including Brazil, and is often associated with HPV infection, primarily the oncogenic types HPV 16 and 18. This study aims to analyze national data from the last 10 years on the incidence and mortality of this disease, as well as discuss the importance of screening for prevention. The methodology used was retrospective and observational, with data obtained from DATASUS and a literature review in scientific databases such as SciELO, PubMed, and MEDLINE. The results show that, between 2014 and 2023, 281,814 hospitalizations and 25,542 deaths were recorded, with significant variations over the years. Data analysis suggests increasing adherence to screening, but HPV vaccination coverage is still insufficient, compromising the effectiveness of prevention. Mortality was observed to be higher among older women and those from minority ethnic groups. Although efforts are underway to expand vaccination and screening, socioeconomic and cultural barriers continue to hinder access to preventive care and vaccination for these populations. Further studies are needed to better characterize this reality.
