An Exploratory Study on the Experiences and Perception of Utilizing Generative AI: Focusing on Course Design and Implementation in University Education

This study explores students' perceptions based on their experiences with generative AI in university courses.During the first semester of 2024, an instructional design for a Content Planning class at a university in Gyeongsangnam-do was developed and implemented using generative AI, targeting 14 senior students enrolled in the major course. The study analyzed students' perceptions of their experience with AI tools. The results showed that students initially had low interest in generative AI.However, as the course progressed, their perceptions changed positively, with generative AI becoming an integrap part of their learning and daily lives. Moreover, students' perceptions significantly improved through their learning experiences as they recognized generative AI as an important tool in embodying ideas and solving creative problems. However, concerns were raised about excessive dependence on AI, the reduction of human roles, and the uncertainty of the future, highlighting the urgency of addressing these issues.Additionally, challenges related to linguistic limitations and cultural expression were realized. These findings offer practical implications for the effective use of generative AI in university education, such as providing real-world learning opportunities, enhancing creative expression and planning skills, and improving digital accessibility.Further research is needed to address the potential risks associated with AI over-dependence and explore ways to integrate AI in diverse university educational contexts.
