A Study on the Development and Validation of Generative AI Literacy Measurement Tool for Elementary and Secondary Teachers
Objectives This study attempted to develop and validate a self-report measurement tool to measure Generative AI literacy of elementary and secondary teachers. Methods To this end, the components of Generative AI literacy were devised based on previous studies, the draft items were developed, and the preliminary test items were selected through expert review. A preliminary test was conducted on 107 elementary and secondary teachers enrolled in the artificial intelligence convergence education major of the K Graduate School of Education, and an exploratory factor analysis was conducted based on the results to confirm the main test question as 31 questions, and the final tool was confirmed by conducting a confirmatory factor analysis on 137 people. Results The Generative AI literacy measurement tool in this study developed in this study consists of 3 factors(Understanding Generative AI, Educational utilization of Generative AI, and Value of Generative AI) and two sub-factors within each factor, totaling six sub-factors and 31 questions. The final reliability Cronbach's α value of the instrument was above .9, indicating high reliability, and the correlation analysis among the sub-factors showed that all the Pearson correlation coefficients between the factors were significant at .7 or higher at the .001 level of significance. In addition, confirmatory factor analysis showed that the model fit indices, CFI and TLI, were both above .9. Conclusions The measurement tool developed through this study can be used to confirm the level of Generative AI literacy of elementary and secondary teachers, and based on this, it can serve as basic data to provide education for elementary and secondary teachers to cultivate Generative AI literacy capabilities.
