The Impact Mechanism of Family Incivility on Organizational Citizenship Behavior: A Moderated Mediation Analysis

Domestic violence and other forms of family-related stress have been widely demonstrated to spill over into the workplace, negatively impacting employee performance. However, family incivility, as a form of long-term, invisible soft violence, often exerts even more profound and enduring negative effects on employees' work performance. Based on the stressor-strain model, this study constructs a cross-domain moderated mediation model to deeply explore the mechanism through which family incivility affects organizational citizenship behavior via emotional exhaustion. Through statistical analysis of survey data from 242 employees, we find that family incivility significantly positively impacts emotional exhaustion, which in turn significantly reduces organizational citizenship behavior. However, colleague support, as an important social support resource, effectively mitigates the exacerbating effect of family incivility on emotional exhaustion and weakens its negative impact on organizational citizenship behavior. The findings of this study have significant theoretical and practical implications for understanding the impact of family incivility on workplace behavior and how colleague support can alleviate its negative effects.
