Rediscovery of Rhaphidorrhynchium confertissimum (Sematophyllaceae) –from the Western Ghats
Rhaphidorrhynchium confertissimum, thought to be endemic to Meghalaya in Northeast India, has been discovered in Ponmudi Hills, a part of the Agasthyamalai Biosphere Reserve on the southern Western Ghats in Peninsular India which is c. 2500 km southwest of its type location. The present discovery indicates the possibility of the species’ occurrence in the intervening areas. Therefore, a description, a photographic plate and a distribution map are provided to help other bryologists collect the species elsewhere.
