Notes on the exclusion of Bulbophyllum cupreum from Orchid Flora of India
Bulbophyllum cupreum Lindl. [Orchidaceae-Epidendroideae-Malaxideae-Dendrobiinae] is recorded from India only once from Arunachal Pradesh in 1989 based on the specimen [Hegde 4662, Orchid Herbarium Tippi] collected from Bana during 1984. The specimen was studied in comparison with the type, protologue, other authentic materials and could be re-identified as Bulbophyllum careyanum (Hook.) Spreng. As this was the only record of Bulbophyllum cupreum from India, which is now corrected as Bulbophyllum careyanum, the former has been excluded from the orchid flora of India. Detailed taxonomic citation, description, phenology, habitat and distribution of Bulbophyllum careyanum has been provided along with photographs for easy identification of the species.
