Influence of the defects degree in structure isotropic pyrolytic carbon on its hardness and wear rate

Increasing the efficiency of friction units of modern power machines and aggregates is achieved by selecting special materials. One of the materials capable of operating under extreme friction conditions is isotropic pyrolytic carbon (IPC). The applicability of Raman spectroscopy to assess the defects degree of the structure and nature of defects in isotropic pyrolytic carbon is shown. Based on the analysis of Raman scattering spectra, it has been suggested that the sp3- carbon nanoclusters exist in the structure of the IPC. Based on a comparison of the regression dependences of the wear rate on the density and defects degree of the structure of isotropic pyrolytic carbon, it is shown that increased wear resistance of the material is achieved at a density above 2,1 g/cm3. Abstract

Ill. 8. Ref. 16. Tab. 2.
