SEVERE MUSCLE SKELETAL TRAUMA BY CAR ACCIDENT WITH UPPERBRACHIAL PLEXUS INJURY FAVORABLE REHABILITATIVE EVOLUTION
Introduction Worldwide, road traffic injuries are the leading cause of polytrauma. A favorable evolution of these medical challenges outcome as a result of a promptly established diagnosis and quickly implemented medical intervention s during the acute stage, but also as a consequence of a complex recovery treatment that combines a multidisciplinary approach in the phases: subacute and chronic. Material and method: We reported the case of a 54 year old woman, admitted to the Neuromuscular Recovery Clinic of the Emergency Clinical Hospital Bagdasar Arseni (SCUBA), who, following a road traffic accident, presented multiple traumas (bilateral trimalleolar fracture, di splacement of comminuted fracture on the left humeral head both surgically treated, displacement of the left sacral and iliac wing fracture, a non displaced fracture of the left pubic ramus, fractures of the left costal arches no. II VI, T5 vertebral bod y oblique fracture, right temporo basal cortico subcortical fracture, nasal bone fracture, left postero lateral zygomatic arch fracture, right ethmoidal sinus wall fracture, and complex lung trauma). During the hospitalization, the patient underwent a comp lex rehabilitation treatment, interspersed with clinical paraclinical investigations that established the additional diagnosis of left brachial plexus severe palsy. Results and discussions: The patient had a long term evolution, which led to favorable resu lts involving the recovery of walking function and the ability to perform her daily activities with a facility comparable to the one before the polytrauma. Conclusions: Proper management requires a multidisciplinary approach that contributes to preventing complications while improving the quality of life.
