Correlation of mass spectrometry and pressure in UHV systems
For experiments with ultra-cold atoms, background gases should be removed as much as possible to avoid collisions and re-thermalisation of the trapped and/or cooled atom cloud. Hence, an Ultra-High Vacuum system is required. Such a vacuum system is demonstrated in a prototype for an International Space Station project. This paper shall give an introduction of the prototype set-up and performed tests. An analysis of how the mass spectrometry data of the vacuum prototype correlates to pressure data and what conclusions can be drawn from these correlations is presented. • Initial pump down has negligible influence on gas composition in vacuum system. • During isolation from the turbomolecular pump, gas compositions fluctuate. • Expected heat loads during operation have no significant impact on vacuum chamber.
