The Pandemic as an Obstacle to Social Transformation. The Case of the Blockade to the Exit from Neoliberalism in Chile
This article examines how the pandemic exposed the shortcomings of Chile’s neoliberal model, amplifying pre-existing inequalities and social unrest that erupted in 2019. The analysis delves into the impact of neoliberalism on individual and collective identity, and how the pandemic intensified feelings of suffering, uncertainty, and distrust. Despite efforts at social transformation through a constituent process, pandemic fatigue and elite influence hindered progress, ultimately preserving the neoliberal model.
