Complex treatment of dentofacial deformity associated with total maxillary edentulism and joint tumor
Technical/scientific and technological advances in dentistry have brought great improvements in the diagnosis and planning of challenging cases. In this context, the aim of this study is to describe a clinical case of a patient with great facial asymmetry, partial mandibular and total maxillary edentulism with condylar hyperplasia, in which a multidisciplinary treatment was performed using both conventional and virtual diagnostic and planning resources, for rehabilitation with osseointegrated implants, bimaxillary orthognathic surgery and condylectomy. Initially, the patient was referred to orthodontics for lower alignment and leveling for subsequent installation of posterior lower implants. Upper implants were also installed for implant-supported dentogingival rehabilitation with little prosthetic compensation. After correct planning, bimaxillary orthognathic surgery and mentoplasty were performed with surgical treatment of condylar hyperplasia. The results showed significant improvement from a functional and aesthetic point of view, restoring health and quality of life to the patient. Six years after the completion of the case, the results are stable.
