Does Self-Generating Energy Technology Adoption Increase Residential Electricity Consumption Inequality in an Emerging Country? Evidence From Brazil
We identified the impact of adopting self-generating energy technologies on electricity demand in Brazil. Using the Household Budget Survey database and the unconditional quantile treatment effect estimator to analyze heterogeneous treatment effects, we find that adopting self-generating energy technologies leads to an increase in residential electricity consumption, mainly in the highest quantiles of consumption distribution, thereby imposing inequality in residential electricity consumption.
