Aquatic and astrality in the poetry of Mihai Eminescu. Fusion of elements
The article deals with the aquatic theme in Mihai Eminescu’s poetry, which imposes itself through a multitude of meanings. Various situations of water are analyzed: water spring, lake, river, ocean, sea. The water spring, primordial element of waters, symbolizes the beginning, permanence, time in perpetual becoming. The image of the lake appears in poems with an erotic theme. The river which, most of the time, has concrete names – the Nile, the Seine, the Danube, the Dniester, the Tisza – signifies the overlapping of historical time with the natural one. The ocean is the expression of man’s soul tumult, but also of freezing, cold loneliness and desolation. The metaphor of the sea is dominant in the Romanian poet’s lyrics. This sums up the most meanings. An important aspect in Eminescu’s poetic work is also the aquatic reflections, which suggests the mysterious unity of waters and heavenly bodies. The stars represent the idea of fullness, of infinity, and the water waves are the expression of the consummation of human existence.
