Analyzing the Impact of Speed and Road Surface on Whole Body Vibration and Heart Rate in Riders
Motorcycles are the most commonly used vehicles in Indonesia. When riding, riders are exposed to two types of vibrations: hand-arm vibration (HAV) and whole-body vibration (WBV), which are produced by the engine and road surfaces. Prolonged exposure to WBV can have negative effects on health and psychological reactions. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of road type and motorcycle speed on WBV exposure and heart rate. The WBV exposure was measured following the international standard ISO 2631-1 using an accelerometer sensor, while heart rate measurements were taken using the ‘Xiaomi Band 7’ and ‘Notify for Mi Band’ software. 9 males aged 20 – 22 years participated in this study. The results indicate that concrete roads have a higher WBV acceleration (4.268 ± 0.741 m/s²) and heart rate (92.805 ± 8.291 bpm) than asphalt roads (3.105 ± 0.324 m/s² and 82.184 ± 5.883 bpm, respectively). At 50 km/h, the average WBV acceleration was higher (4.178 ± 0.832 m/s²) than at 30 km/h (3.195 ± 0.407 m/s²), whereas for the rider's heart rate was (91.581 ± 8.980 bpm versus 83.409 ± 6.862 bpm).
