A Torque Modeling Method of Spherical Reluctance Motor Based on the Magnetic Circuit Method
The torque model of a motor serves as a foundation for motion control and parameter optimization. However, modeling a spherical reluctance motor (SPRM) using conventional methods is challenging due to its double salient pole structure and the inherent nonlinearity of its magnetic circuit. This article presents a torque modeling method for SPRMs based on the magnetic equivalent circuit (MEC) method. First, the magnetization curves at four special positions within a single pole pitch are calculated by the MEC method. Second, the flux linkage-rotor angle curve is divided into three regions, and the expression of each region is established by combining the flux linkage curves of the four special positions. Finally, the torque model is formulated according to the flux linkage expression, and the model is optimized using finite-element analysis (FEA). Both FEA and experimental results show that the proposed modeling method offers high accuracy, achieving a balance between computational speed and precision, thus providing a robust foundation for the advanced control of SPRMs.
