UTILIZAÇÃO DOS PESSÁRIOS PARA O TRATAMENTO DOS PROLAPSOS DOS ÓRGÃOS PÉLVICOS: REVISÃO DE LITERATURA

Background: Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a common condition among many women, caused by several factors. Pessaria are devices used as na alternative treatment, offering structural support and improving quality of life, promoting improvements in symptoms, sexual function and body perception. Pourpose: To verify the benefits and efficacy of the pessary in the treatment of pelvic organ prolapses. Methods: This is a literature review, whose databases used were pubmed, SciELO, PEDro and Virtual Health Library (BVS). The inclusion criteria were articles selected between 2014 and 2024, referring to the theme: Use of pessaries for the treatment of pelvic organ prolapses, and articles predominantly in Portuguese and English. Results: This review included four articles that verified the effectiveness of the use of vaginal pessary for the treatment of POP. Most of them show that the pessary can be considered a conservative treatment, reducing symptoms and improving the quality of life, being a viable option for women who do not want or cannot undergo corrective surgery. Conclusion: The need for more research on the use of pessaries in the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse is also identified, as well as evidence to prove its effectiveness and application, especially in comparison with other treatment options, such as Pelvic Floor Muscle Training (TMAP).
