THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL SITUATION OF SENIOR CITIZENS IN THE LIGHT OF EMPIRICAL RESEARCH

In the article based on a study conducted in 2024 as part of the project: "A world tailored to seniors. The situation of older people in Poland” presented the economic and social situation of seniors. Pointing out that a stable financial situation is the most important determinant of the level and quality of life of seniors.The article outlines a complex picture of the economic situation of older people and shows their financial situation, expenses, debt and savings, expressed expectations and social relations. Because on the one hand, income, debt or savings, and on the other - needs and expenses, determine the financial situation of seniors. Therefore it’s important for the quality of life of seniors. It should be noted that they change with increasing age, therefore with deteriorating health and possible limited fitness and the associated increase it expenses for the purchase of medicines and other medical supplies. This is often associated with a deterioration of the financial situation of households, especially women, who in old age are more exposed to living in poverty.
