Numerical Investigation of Rotational Dynamics in Trailer Bogie: An Overset Mesh Approach
This study investigates the rotational dynamics of a trailer bogie's axle, focusing on the intricate aerodynamics of the rotating brake disc. The Overset Mesh Method is applied to simulate and analyze the air pumping phenomenon, aerodynamic torque, and drag forces. Experimental measurements of aerodynamic torques are compared with numerical simulations, validating the Overset Mesh Method. Further simulations explore the bogie system, revealing enhanced air pumping action and significant pressure distribution variations around the rotating disc. The rotating configuration exhibits higher torque values and drag forces, influencing power loss and flow fields. Ultimately, this research demonstrates the effectiveness of overset mesh techniques in capturing complex flow dynamics in rotational systems.
