Duty Cycle Control for a Series-Series Compensated Wireless DC-DC Converter Using a Hybrid Controller

An alternative control strategy to drive a Series-Series (SS) compensated Wireless DC-DC converter regulating the duty cycle is proposed. A hybrid approach, obtained combining a Proportional-Integrative-Derivative (PID) controller and a feedforward Artificial Neural Network (ANN) controller, is developed. The ways to design the two controllers are shown. The hybrid controller is designed in such a way to exploit the strengths of the two starting controllers. Simulations of the controlled converter are performed in Simulink environment, showing how the proposed control approach is able to overcome the weaknesses of the single controller. In this way, the hybrid control can be seen as a very powerful tool which is born from the mixing of two control strategies which are quite easy to be developed individually.
