Shipboard Radar Measurement Errors Modeling Under the Influence of Complex Marine Meteorology
Complex marine meteorological conditions can lead to errors in shipborne radar measurements. To study these errors and analyze their characteristics, this work proposes a method for modeling shipborne radar errors under the influence of wind, waves, and currents. First, a coupled wind-wave–current model is established to represent the external environment. Next, we develop a discretized ship motion model and explore the interactions between the environmental forces and ship motion in detail. Then coupling relationships are established among the ship’s six degrees of freedom (6-DOF) to ensure the accuracy of the motion model. Finally, an error model is derived for radar measurements resulting from changes in the ship’s position and orientation, and we use data from the ship motion model to simulate and analyze radar error results under the influence of wind, wave, and current.
