A curvature and temperature simultaneous measurement sensor based on micro-taper formed MZI and an embedded FBG
Abstract A compact fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) compound for simultaneous measurement of bending and temperature is described. The FBG and MZI are fabricated in fiber, forming a compact device that is different from the previously prepared axial cascade of multiple structures. Experimental results show that the FBG and MZI have different sensitivity to temperature and bending response, allowing this device to measure bending and temperature simultaneously. The proposed sensor has the advantages of simple preparation steps, small size, low cost, short preparation cycle, etc. Due to these advantages, it is competitive in the future sensing field where bending and temperature are measured simultaneously.
