Korean Research Trends on Burnout of Counselors

This study analyzed trends in Korean research on counselor burnout by collecting a total of 181 studies on counselor burnout published in academic journals in Korea from 2001 to December 2023. The analysis focused on publication period, research subjects, research methods, keywords, and variable settings. First, research on counselor burnout in Korea was first published in academic journals in 2001, and the number of studies has steadily increased. Quantitative research was predominant, while qualitative research has shown a recent upward trend. Second, in studies targeting school counselors, Yu(2007)’s K-CBI was frequently used, while the MBI by Maslach and Jackson(1981) was most commonly utilized in studies targeting other groups. Third, as a result of the frequency analysis of key words, positive key words such as self-efficacy and mindfulness showed high frequency. Fourth, burnout was most often used as a dependent variable. Based on these results, the implications of the study and the direction of future research were suggested.
