The Influence of Novice Counselors’ Intolerance of Uncertainty on Counselor’s Burnout: The Sequential Mediating Effects of Maladaptive Cognitive Emotion Regulation and Mindfulness
This study examined the influence of novice counselors' Intolerance of uncertainty on Counselor’s burnout, and the sequential mediating effects of maladaptive Cognitive emotion regulation and Mindfulness. For the study, a self-report survey was conducted targeting novice counselors with the scales of Intolerance of Uncertainty, Counselor’s Burnout, maladaptive Cognitive Emotion Regulation, and Mindfulness. 309 people’s data were used in the final regression analysis, using SPSS Statistics 26.0 and SPSS PROCESS macro 4.1. The results are that significant correlations among the variables were found and the sequential mediating effects of maladaptive Cognitive emotion regulation and Mindfulness were confirmed between Intolerance of uncertainty and Counselor’s burnout. That is, the more a novice counselor has Intolerance of uncertainty, the more he or she uses maladaptive Cognitive emotion regulation strategies and then he or she is difficult to be mindfulness, resulting in increasing Counselor’s burnout. Based on these results, implications to reduce novice counselors’ burnout were discussed.
