Results of peripheral vision assessment for blue color in children

Purpose. To evaluate changes in peripheral vision for blue color in children. Material and methods. This study involved 100 patients (200 eyes) aged 7 to 17 years. Patients underwent a comprehensive diagnostic examination. Results. The average BCVA value was 0.9 (0.8–1.0), anterior-posterior size of the eye (APS) – 24.3 (23.2–25.2) mm, total visual field for white color – 520 (497–520) with a norm of 530, and the average value of total visual field for blue color is 409 (373–432) with a norm of 380. A weak inverse correlation was established between the value of total visual field for blue color and the value of APS (r= –0.16 at p<0.05). A narrowing of visual field of more than 15 degrees for white color was detected in 55 cases. A narrowing of visual field for blue color was detected in 56 cases, with a narrowing of more than 15 degrees – in 35 cases. When assessing BCVA in patients with clinically significant narrowing of the visual field for blue color, it was revealed that in 5 cases the BCVA was 0.4–0.7, in 5 cases the BCVA was less than 0.4. A biometric study of the eye in patients with a clinically significant narrowing of the visual field for blue color showed that in 2 cases there was APS of 16.47 mm (one child in both eyes), in 6 cases APS was up to 24 mm, in the remaining 28 cases APS was more than 24 mm (24.16–26.62 mm). Conclusion. Assessing peripheral vision for blue color has clinical significance in patients diagnosed with amblyopia, that requires more detailed assessment in this group of patients. Key words: visual field for blue color, perimetry for colors, amblyopia, children’s vision, peripheral vision, perimetry
