In conditions of social global changes in modern Russia, the development of traditional social institutes that impact the process of a person’s regional identity is necessary. In modern Russian society, there is a need to prepare citizens for productive intercultural interaction, to form a core of values of national and regional culture, representing the basis of identity. Two key concepts “identity” and “regional identity” are considered, and the components of regional identity in the process of teaching foreign languages to schoolchildren are identified.
