Reducing Electricity Fees by Smart Building Energy Management: A Case Study in Shenzhen with PEDF System

The difference between peak and valley electricity prices becomes even larger and various types of power regulation modes such as virtual power plant gradually emerge. In this context, flexibly regulating building loads by building energy management systems can help users reduce electricity costs. This paper proposes a building energy control strategy for an office building that uses a building energy system integrated with the photovoltaic, energy storage, direct current, and flexibility (PEDF) system. The control strategy optimizes scheduling of adjustable loads in buildings such as energy storage, air conditioners, charging piles, and lighting to improve the utilization of solar roof and reduce the power consumption demands during the peak period. The control strategy run continuously in the project for half a year. The results show that the average cost for electricity consumption is reduced by 66% when compared with the regular operational condition without PEDF system and is reduced by 20% when compared with the operational condition before the control strategy are implemented.
