A New Design of a Portable, Passive Acoustic Buoy for Real-Time Detection of Vocal Marine Mammals
This paper describes the design, build and operation of portable, passive acoustic buoys (P-PAB) with soft tethered hydrophones, capable of real-time satellite signal transmission to shore. We describe the set of commercial components used in the system, reliability of communications, power usage, duty cycle, as well as the at-sea deployment logistics.
