Low Cost Architecture for Water Consumption Evaluation Using IoT for Rural Population : Case of the Laye Commune in Burkina Faso

The scarcity of water resources, production, distribution and management of water are of great global concern and in particular interest the Burkina Faso government. Populations in developing countries, especially those located in rural areas, suffer from a lack of drinking water. This article uses new information and communications technologies to optimize and improve water management in the rural commune of LAYE. A low-cost telecommunications network using IoT has been set up to collect and monitor data. With this network, the information obtained from smart water meters makes it possible to know in real time the water consumption of populations. This device will make it possible to predict the quantity of water necessary for the population in view to anticipate an optimal solution. The data obtained can contribute to improving the living conditions of the rural population in the context of the advent of 5G, Big data, IoT, artificial intelligence, etc.
