Effect of CoM Replacement on Piezoelectric MEMS Energy Harvesters: Preliminary Results

This paper presents an analysis of center of mass (CoM) manipulation in piezoelectric micro-electro-mechanical system (PMEMS) energy harvesters, exploring various designs and impact of CoM location tuning on the overall performance. Through modelling, FEM simulation, and validation, the efficacy of CoM-based tuning in achieving reliable energy harvester and enhanced operational efficiency is demonstrated. Various PMEMS energy harvesters, incorporating shifted CoM locations via anchored cantilever beam design, have been studied. The proposed structural design is able to modify the CoM location to an imaginary point, reinforcing the structure. The new CoM location within the structure leads to efficient stress and pressure management, highlighting the potential of this methodology in developing reliable, practical, and sustainable energy harvesting systems.
