Ship Matching Issues Using AIS and Satellite Radio Frequency Data
Satellite remote sensing data identifies vessels that either don't transmit Automatic Identification System (AIS) signals or provide incorrect coordinates., while radio frequency (RF) satellite data effectively monitors ships that disable AIS or Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) devices. Unseenlabs of Fers RF data for X- and S-bands., but their matching results with AIS data have limitations that can lead to incorrect ship identification. This study addresses the issues in Unseenlabs” matching results and proposes a matching algorithm based on a distance for RF and AIS data in the Yellow Sea. In the overlapping region of RF and AIS data., the matching rate varied from 80.2 % to 98.7%., with an average of 89.3%., and no duplicate matches were observed. The study's findings reveal the RF and AIS matching rate., of Fering key insights for future multi-dataset ship identification research.
