Air-Sea Surface Heat Fluxes in the Arabian Gulf: Insights from High Resolution Regional Ocean Model
The turbulent and radiative heat flux exchanges between the ocean and atmosphere play crucial roles in the earth's climate system. This study aims to quantify these air-sea interactive fluxes of the Arabian Gulf using a high-resolution regional ocean model MITgcm called MODEL-ERASHYC. The net heat fluxes from the model, three observation/satellite prod-ucts, and four annual mean climatology fluxes are compared. The MODEL-ERASHYC annual net heat flux shows the most negligible bias from climatology, while all the datasets closely resemble statistical parameters. Further latent, sensible, short wave and long wave radiative heat fluxes were calculated from the model, and it was observed that there is a net gain of 8 <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$W/m^{2}$</tex> heat to the gulf exhibiting a strong seasonality.
